Children are strange, complex, and different from us. They have their own point of view and none of us really know what the hell they mean at times. So we have to make allowances for that. Our job as parents is to build their self-esteem, show them love and affection and let them know we believe in them. 
The feeling counts
They feel loved when they see us taking interest in their ideas and feelings. We need to be consistent and fair in our behavior with our children and that behavior has to be mirrored by what we expect from them. It’s important that they know we care about them no matter what they do. We also have to help them realize that we expect them to make mistakes because learning from mistakes is key to becoming an adult.
